National Book Month

By Johanna Rodriguez Douglass, Youth Librarian, Edwards Public Library November 16, 2020

November is a month of such anticipation. We are getting ready for company, travel, spending money, giving to charity, and more. Perhaps it's also a good time to take a deep breath and to recall that it is also "Native American Heritage Month". You can commemorate Native People by reading about their lives and contributions. Presently, the library has a display of books on many of the tribes of the Americas. We also have books detailing their crafts, homes, and lifestyles. Maybe this year is your opportunity to read a book by a Native American author? Have you read any of Louise Erdrich's books? (I can recommend "LaRose") and Joseph Bruchac has great books for kids like his classic "Squanto's Journey" or his latest "The Powwow Dog". If you are interested in family dynamics, our Book Club is reading "The Dutch House" by Ann Patchett. It is wonderfully written!

Please let us know if you would like a book by calling us at 413-527-9480 or emailing us at edwards@cwmars.org. We can arrange your curbside pickup on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 1-6 and Saturdays from 10-1. Or come into the library for limited browsing on Tuesdays from 3-6 or Wednesdays from 1-4. Families can schedule a visit on Wednesday mornings from 10-Noon.

So, exhale and enjoy your November with a book. December will soon be here!
