Trees are an important part of our lives.  We not only need them for oxygen but as children, we have used them for tree houses, climbed them and decorated them.  Did you know there is a day dedicated to celebrating the tree?

According to Wikipedia:  Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day or Arbor and Bird Day observance.  National Arbor Day is celebrated every year on the last Friday in April.    The customary observance is to plant a tree. On the first Arbor Day, April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted.

Locally there are celebrations planned in Westfield, Longmeadow, Maynard and Leominster, according to the map on https://www.arborday.org/  In that absence of celebrations in our area, there is the option to become a member of the Arbor Day Foundation and get 10 FREE trees to plant ourselves!  Their website is a wealth of information and worth a look!
