Check out your local library!

Edwards Public Library

By Johanna Rodriguez Douglass, Youth Librarian, Edwards Public Library April 1, 2019

We’re on Facebook, we have a new website, we post in the newspaper, we send out newsletters, and we want you to know that we are here! And, we are here for everybody. The Edwards Public Library is a welcoming place for old and young, for those with lots of resources and for those with none, for those who can read an e-book and for those who break into hives at the idea of technology.

Come in and see our display of scrapbooks and old photos that is a companion to our new Historical Resources website. It’s a historian’s delight. Use our public computers, fax documents, print papers. Afraid of technology? Arrange a time to meet Robert. He will help you learn your device and troubleshoot computer problems with you. Do you want a new hobby? Join one of our groups, the Writing Group, the Book Club, or Knitters Night. Want to give back to your community? Drop off food for the local food pantry or volunteer to help the Friends of the Edwards Public Library, or donate your books to support the Big Book Sale in May.

I am partial to our many activities for children and we are blessed with a lovely children’s room, filled with toys, puzzles and games, and fellowship. Our Story Hour is extremely popular and meets most Wednesdays at 10:30am during the school year. Every month we have a new activity for kids. Last month it was Fairy Houses and next month it will be learning how to make soap. Our summer reading program is always a winner and features great incentives for young people. Our kickoff event is super magician, Scott Jameson, but I already have Hands on Nature, an Escape Room, an astronomy program, and much more on the agenda! We also have an adult summer reading program because, why should kids have all the fun?

I didn’t even mention books and media yet…our adult, youth, and young adult sections are full of old favorites, staff picks, and the latest reads. If our copy is out, you can use interlibrary loan to get what you want.

Please like us on Facebook, visit our website (www.southamptonlibrary.org), or sign up for our e-newsletter when you come in to get your library card. We are here for you!
